I apologize that I mostly have not got proper references for the abstracts cited below. John Moore married Tabitha Pace, daughter of Richard Pace (will proved 1738 Bertie Co.) Richard Pace's will mentions daughter Tabitha Moore; John Pace's will (proved 1753 Northampton Co.) mentions wife Tabitha, daughter Sarah, sons Mark, John, Isham, William, Nathaniel, Richard. Executors: wife Tabitha Moore, Richard Moore and Thomas Pace. In 1771, John Moore Senior gave land in Johnston County to his son John Moore Jr: 12 Aug mdccLxxi. And here's Mark Moore, together with Samuel Clark, selling 200 acres on Little River to New Tapley: 1767 September 29. Samuel Clark and Mark Moore of Northampton County to New. From the matching names, it seems certain that these Moores in Johnston County are from the family of John and Tabitha Pace Moore. John Moore (m. Tabitha) died by 1753, so "John Moore Senior" who gave 50 acres to John Moore Jr, must be Tabitha's son giving land to her grandson -- both named John Moore. John Moore (Tabitha's son) died in Jefferson Co. GA (will proved Sep 1816). His will mentions daughter Mourning Price. Mourning Moore married Rice Price the son of James Price on 2-24-1795 in Johnston County, North Carolina. Dixon Price (brother to Rice Price) served as bondsman. Administration on the estate of James Price to John Moore when he entered bond of 140 pounds current money, 9-1-1795. (JoCo Court Minutes) Mourning Moore Price was Tabitha Pace Moore's granddaughter. (Johnston County NC Abstracts Deed Books Z-1, Z-1, A-2, B-2 1799-1803 Vol. VI, Weynette Parks Haun) Does anyone have any suggestions as to the identity of this Stephen Pace? The fact that he's in the same area as the family of John Moore and Tabitha Pace, and apparently a neighbor of Mourning Moore's brother-in-law, suggests he could be related to Tabitha Pace's family. Tabitha's brother William had a son Stephen, and son Stephen also had a son Stephen (mentioned in his father's will proved 1823 Putnam Co GA). On the other hand, there was also an Alsey Pace (b. abt 1785) in the same area, and it has been suggested that he might have been a son of Stephen Pace. If so, Stephen Pace was NOT related to Tabitha Pace Moore's family; DNA results show that descendants of Alsey Pace do not match the descendants of Tabitha Pace's brothers. Anyone have any comments?
