Paces of SW North Carolina and John the tory

Some question whether Burrel Pace and his descendants are directly related to John the tory or another John.
Burrel was my gggggrandfather. Family tradition is that Burrel went to the NC legislature after John and his oldest son were killed by loyalist at shallow ford on the Yadkin River. Burrel presented to the legislature that he supported the revolution and asked that the state return his father's land to him. If this is recorded somewhere in the NC archives any question of direct relationship of the Pace's descended from Burrel to John the tory can be settled.
Has anyone researched the NC archives and found evidence of Burrel's appeal to the legislature?
