O'Kane is generally an Ulster surname, although not necessarily. Ulster Kanes & O'Kanes make up 40% of the membership of the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com so you are likely to find numerous DNA matches. DNA does not replace the paper trail research, but really enhances it.
