I have found my information on William O'Cain at the Three Rivers Historical Society.
According to the notes on William O'Cain:
His ancestors MIGHT have come from Antrim County, Ireland.
He was said to be born ca 1765.
His ancestors could have landed in Philadelphia, moving to Virginia, then Halifax District, Martin County, NC.
Three Rivers Historical Society has a lot of books there, including " The Cain Tree and Tangled Branches". This book contains a lot of information on the history of the O'Cains and Cains of Marion County, SC. It begins with our William O' Cain. You may have already seen this book.
Also,at Three Rivers, is a lot of Hyman family information. Since they trace back to William O'Cain through Welthy Hyman, they mention his name in a lot of their records.
This history center is in Hemingway, SC, not far from Pamplico.
Anyway, this Cain/O'Cain book states that John O'Cain MAY
have been a cousin or brother to William.
It stated that he remained in North Carolina where he did have a family. I see no record of who he married, or children. I have not researched them either. You may find something on them.
The 1800 census of Martin County (according to the Cain book), shows Elizabeth O'Cain, a widow of 45 years of age, living next door to William, John, and Thomas O'Cain.
She was believed to have been their mother. She was known as Betty O'Cain. This name appears on several documents, including deed records of Martin County.
According to some records, a Daniel O'Cain is thought to have been the father of William O'Cain. I have not checked this out, so it is only a theory.
You might find something on William O'Cain in his army accounts at the North Carolina Dept of Archives and History.
I was told that the Revolutionary War records of William do not relate much about himself or family.
Thanks for your reply.
I will help you further if I can.
Do you have a copy of William O'Cain's will?
If not, I can get you one.
Susan
