My great grandmother, Barbara Neubauer, was born in Windheim, Germany. I have no information except that before she came to the U.S. her father disappeared in the northern part of Russia in search of a job. Barbara was born in 1846 and married my great grandfather, John Scherbel, in Windheim in 1869. I believe she would have traveled as Barbara Scherbel and her first child, born 1870, was probably born in Germany, and was named Barbara, also. Two other children, Maria and Johann, died and were buried in New Orleans, LA. They arrived in St. Louis, MO sometime before my grandmother was born in January of 1875.
