MERLE J. MEADS age 86 years of Onsted, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at his home. He was born on March 20, 1920 in Tecumseh, Michigan, the son of Oscar and Mildred (Beaubien) Meads. Merle married Beatrice Blakley on January 13, 1940 in Angola, Indiana. She survives. Merle was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of D.A.V. of Adrian and the Techumseh Evangelical Friends Church in Tecumseh. He enjoyed playing cards and telling stories to his grandchildren. Merle was a farmer and retiree from Peerless Gear of Clinton. Surviving besides his wife, Beatrice are their children, Dorothy (Clyde) Willtrout of Michigan Center, Sharon (Ron) Bowen of Petersburg, Edith (Larry) Nevins of Brooklyn, Dawn Meads of Onsted and Merle "Butch" (Sally) Meads of Onsted, 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, one brother, Robert (Betty) Meads of Adrian, two sisters, Wilma (Clarence) Randolph and Eula Woods all of Tecumseh and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, three infant grandchildren, two brothers, George and Wilbur Meads, and one sister, Frances Campbell. Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted with Pastor David Kopka officiating. Interment will follow at Lenawee Hills Memorial Park in Adrian with full military honors conducted by V.F.W. 1584 Annis-Fint Post of Adrian. Visitation will be on Friday, May 12, 2006 from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the Dunn Chapel, Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Onsted. Memorials are suggested to the family of Merle J. Meads.
