Proof of Zilphia Meadows?

Hello,

I am a descendant of Thomas Huntley (circa 1730-1802). Thomas Huntley's wife was identified as Sarah, in his will. A Zilphia/Zilpha Meadows has also been stated as a possible wife.

According to the Huntley family expert, Virgil Huntley, the source of the name, Zilphia Meadows, was an old black preacher named Rev. Joe Ratcliff. The first known Huntley researcher, John W. Huntley (1833-1928), interviewed Rev. Ratcliff. At the time, Rev. Joe Ratcliff stated that he thought the wife of Thomas Huntley had been Zilphia Meadows. Since Thomas and his wife had died in the early part of the 19th century, I do not understand how Rev. Joe Ratcliff, a non-relative, would have known such information. Was he just guessing? Why did he not mention the proven wife of Thomas Huntley, Sarah?

Do any Meadows/ Meador researchers have any actual documentation (wills, land deeds, family Bibles, etc.) which proves that a Zilphia Meadows ever existed?

Best regards,
James Allison
