I suppose you must be right that the William and Margaret Mead in PEI in the 1881 census were different people. It's odd though that their children were living with the grandparents and the parents were nowhere to be seen. You said that Margaret Thomas in 1861 was 18 years old? So she would have been born in about 1843, give or take a few years? Was she in Canada in 1861? I input that information in the 1880/1 census for England, Canada and the USA, and found just one person who would fit: 1881 British census, Margaret Mead born 1845 in PEI, married but not living with her husband. Living in Saltash, Cornwall as a boarder with Charlotte Godbeer. Was William a sailor or fisherman, and spent a long time away from home? About the name Pennington. I supose that could be the maiden name of William Mead's mother or grandmother. When and where was Pennington Mead born? In order to find out more about William Mead you would have to order the marriage certificate. This site has more information abvout ordering: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Registeringlifeevents/Familyhistoryandresearch/Birthmarriageanddeathcertificates/DG_175628 The marriage certificate should give William Mead’s date of birth and the name of his father.
