It looks like Richard Mead was the son of Samuel Mead. Samuel was the son of William Mead and Elizabeth. William Mead and his children were Quakers and lived in Bucks Co. PA and Loudoun Co. VA. Richard was probably born in VA. Samuel was born in about 1708 in Bucks Co., lived in VA in the 1740s and 1750s, and moved to NJ in about 1766.

Samuel had enlisted in the militia in the 1750s and was in trouble with the Quakers for “folly and vice” and “disunity”.
9TH month 1759: The testimony against Samuel Mead was read. Samuel’s wife Margaret and children Sarah, Richard, Samuel, Ruth, Margaret continued to be members of the Society of friends in Virginia.
He was living in Loudoun Co. VA until about 1765 and then in Pittsgrove, Salem, NJ,
