It looks like Richard Mead was the son of Samuel Mead. Samuel was the son of William Mead and Elizabeth. William Mead and his children were Quakers and lived in Bucks Co. PA and Loudoun Co. VA. Richard was probably born in VA. Samuel was born in about 1708 in Bucks Co., lived in VA in the 1740s and 1750s, and moved to NJ in about 1766. 20 April 1784 - New Jersey Gazette Richard Mead of Salem County, land confiscated May 1787 Richard Mead of Salem County, land confiscated for joining the army of Great Britain Samuel Mead married 25 Aug. 1737 Mary Downey “From Pennsylvania he went first to Loudoun County Virginia and then to Salem County NJ.” (Mead Relations) Samuel Birth: 1708 in Bucks, Pennsylvania Married: 1737 Mary Downey in Bucks Co. 2nd Margaret Death: 1784 in Pittsgrove, Salem, New Jersey Samuel had enlisted in the militia in the 1750s and was in trouble with the Quakers for “folly and vice” and “disunity”. 9TH month 1759: The testimony against Samuel Mead was read. Samuel’s wife Margaret and children Sarah, Richard, Samuel, Ruth, Margaret continued to be members of the Society of friends in Virginia. He was living in Loudoun Co. VA until about 1765 and then in Pittsgrove, Salem, NJ, This is mainly from Philomena (Mena) Mead, who has extensively researched this Mead family.
