Need HELP on Phineas Mead s/o Stephen Mead

Hi,

I am inexperienced researcher. Could anybody please help me. I run into brick wall on my ancestors. I found my ancestors in 1850, 1870-1930. But I couldn't find any of them in 1860 and beyond 1850! It's just like they came out of the blues in the cenuses in their mid-age life. It doesn't make any sense. Could anybody please help me?

Phineas Mead was born 1832, married to Abagail Cooper

He is son of Stephen Mead b. 1800 and Isabella/Isabel "Ibby" Vaughn. I have no more information on any of those ancestors. I searched everywhere to no available. This is very tough for me. :( Any new information you have would be greatly appreciated!
