Hi Bill,
George Mead was the son of John Mead, born Sept. 1743 and Margaret DeMott, born Nov 1748 in Monmouth Co., NJ. They were married Jan 1, 1770 in Pompton Plains, Morris Co., NJ and in about 1786 they moved to Charlton, Saratoga Co., NY. John died March 13, 1818 and Margaret died Sept 12, 1817. They are both buried in Glenville Cem., Glenville, Schenectady Co., NY. In 1811, John sold some land to George, so I figure that it was about that time he married Alida..George had an older brother, Jacob, who died and left a will probated Oct. 7th 1814, naming his parents, John and Margaret, his brothers Isaac, Henry and George, his sisters, Jenney Wilkinson, Mary Scrum and Heny Brunson. Witnesses were Henry, George and a William Scrum. However, the Mead boys sold some land to William, and his name in the deed book is Scram not Scrum.
This is not my line...I am tracing a David Mead that lived in Charlton, just down the road from John, but apparently not related.
Good Luck.
Barbara
