There is a wonderful 2 page article titled "THE MCKEEN FAMILY OF BELFAST, MAINE" by Edward F. Holden. This article is listed under Early Walso County Settlers in Volume 4 Number 3 ,pages 5 and 6, October 1980 of DOWNEAST ANCESTRY. The first paragraph references Deacon Samuel 3 (Samuel 2, John 1) his wife Jane(t) and several of their children who arrived in Belfast, Maine no latter than 1796. In that year Samuel and ten other "Inhabitants of the Town of Belfast" petitioned the General Court Of Massachusetts for relief from the "Public Taxes....because of our distressing circumstances." Despite Deacon McKeen's prominence as a citizen of early Belfast he has to be considered a New Hampshire man. He was born in Londonderry, New Hampshire. All of his many children were born in New Hampshire and after many years in Belfast spent his latter years with his two sons John and Hugh in Acworth, New Hampshire. Samuel 2 McKeen married an Agnes Clark at Derryfield, New Hampshire on 15 August 1723, five years after the arrival in America with his mother, brothers and sister Mary.Samuel made a will in Londonderry on 12 June 1751. It was proved 31 October 1753. Samuel and Agnes had six sons and four daughters. There is alot more info on the family and its ancestry. Notify Administrator about this message?
