John V. McKeen was my great great grandfather. Born c. 1810-1811, perhaps in New Brunswick (or Nova Scotia or Maine). His parents were born in New York state. His siblings are unknown. He married Mary Ann Kingsley (born c.1813, Portland, Cumberland County, Maine) on March 18, 1840 by Rev. Moses Palmer. Her parents were James (born at Steuben, Maine) and Thankful Kingsley. John V. McKeen's children (that we know about) were all born in Maine: Elizabeth McKeen, born c. 1842; John Wesley McKeen, born January 29, 1843, Machias, Washington Co. (my great grandfather), Maine; Mary E. McKeen, born c. 1845; Samuel K.K. McKeen, born c. 1849 in Ellsworth, Hancock County, Maine. The children were raised Methodist-Episcopalians (now part of the United Methodist Church). John V. was a shipwright (joiner) in Portland, Maine at some point. He and his family moved to Litchfield, Meeker County, Maine c. 1858, and worked as a carpenter and farmer. He may have bought land in McLeod County, Minnesota in April 1877. He may have died about 1886-1887 in McLeod County. Is John V. or any of the people I reference above part of your family also? Or have you run across any of them in your genealogy work? Thanks!
