Your William McKean is my 3rd g-grandfather. He was NOT born in Pennsylvania and he is NOT related to Thomas McKean the signer of the Declaration of Independence. William and Jean emigrated with 3 children, 16 May 1774, from Port Stranraer, Wigton, Scott. on the "Gale" of Whitehaven,Scott., Capt. Henry Jefferson. He was a weaver by trade according to the ship's record. [My g-grandfather's records said they were from Wigtownshire.] His headstone (which I have personally seen) is located in the Allentown, NJ Presbyterian Cemetery. It reads as follows: William McKean who died 11 Sept 1811 age 74. A native of Scotland. For 40 years past a resident of this country. Meek, humble, patient, benevolent & full of all charity in the apostic, sense of peity, vital & sincere of manners & disposition, mild & gentle, all united with good sense. He was a christian. This stone (?) & these lines (?) in departed worth by one who will know the same. (Its hard to read the last couple of lines). Unfortunately, that is all we have been able to find on either him or his wife Jean. Jean's headstone was missing, but the plot next to him was probably where she was buried.
