I totally agree with you. I had several phone conversations with him, plus a host of letters exchanged. He and I both knew these McCain were very likely all related, but alas that was before Y chromosome DNA testing was available. I wish he were still around, he would so enjoy knowing that I did find the McCain in Ireland and have been with them many times now. I also know now the true origins of our family, which is something he was interested in. We both suspected the Clan Donald story to have been 'grafted' on... which it turned out it was.
BTW I am in Oxford, visit the Ulster Heritage Magazine, just google that. Anything you would like to contribute on Dr McCain, feel free too, the McCain have a family blog, website, etc.
