In 1693 on Martha's Vineyard Jacob Mayle bought an Indian servant by the name of James Covell.
I am a direct descendent of James Covell who arrived on the Vineyard in 1651. I'm fairly certain he married an Indian lady. Following their marriage oral tradition indicates Indian families on the Island changed their name to Covell.
I'm just wondering if anyone might have more information on this.
