HI Carrie,
The url you sent is also MINE as well as the ones that I sent! Thanks hon, I had forgotten abt it. Am going to check both lists to make sure I have the same names on each!! :-)

And yes, Dr. Kennedy is the researcher who started this resurgence of interest in the Melungeons. Here is something about his book: Just who are the MELUNGEONS? If you have been researching your family in the Cumberland Plateau of Virginia, Kentucky, North
Carolina, West Virginia, and Tennessee, during the early migration years, you may be able to find them through a connection to this group of people who are only now being researched with UNBIASED EYES.

The Melungeons are a people of apparent Mediterranean descent who may have settled in the Appalachian wilderness as early or possibly earlier than 1567. (The Melungeons: The Resurrection of a Proud People; N. Brent Kennedy, Mercer University Press,Macon, GA, USA, 1997; introduction, p. xiii) The Mediterrean includes areas of North Africa, southern Europe and Central Asia. New evidence soon to be forthcoming also indicates that there is a probable connection to the Melungeons from a region in Angola, Africa called the Melange. The name of the area may be where the name Melungeon originally came from. I find this information fascinating.

Please be sure to read more on my websites noted below. And pay particular attention to the health issues. While most Melungeons are a strong, energetic and healthy people, some of us have inherited illnesses that are being MISDIAGNOSED as everything under the sun, including fibromyalgia which is a SET of SYMPTOMS that can be found in 4 different diseases that I now know of and may have HUNDREDS of different causes.
