Hello Victoria,

I have been away from the Margison site for 6 years when I also changed my email address. Now though I am recently retired and can share again. I have large collection of Margeson / Margison / Margerison etc. data for Great Britain. All of the Margesons of North Amaerica seem to go to nearly the same area in England.

I hope the following is useful.
Norris Margeson Whiston

Hull, Yorkshire
[East Riding]

An Alphabetical Directory of Trades and Professions for Hull, [Yorkshire] from Bulmer's Gazetteer (1892) “Mrs. Sarah Margison, 33 Beverley Road” http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Hull/Hull92Alpha/Hull92Alpha13.html

Transcript of the entry of "professions and trades" for HULL in White's Directory of 1840.
Mr Moses Margeson , 31 St James Street, Hull, Yorkshire http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/ERY/Hull/Hull40Dry.html

John Yeats Margison, wife, Mary Ellen Margison, and family arrived from England, via Ellis Island, New York between 1888 and 1892 {Interview Jan. 2002 with Gilbert Margison by Stan Rooney}. John took the ship “the Bermuda” to San Diego {Web genforum-margison from Richard Margison}. John Yeats Margison was born March 3, 1849, in Hull, Yorkshire and died Feb. 7, 1935 {LDS Rec researched by Stan Rooney}. Mary Ellen __ was born May 22, 1849 in England.
They may have divorced in the early or mid 1890s.
In 1896, John Yeats Margison Jr. (See below) migrated to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada {CenBCVic1901} and in 1897, Mary Ellen Margison, John Jr.’s mother and most of her children immigrated, where they established what is now one of the oldest printing business in Victoria, Margison Brothers Printing Company.
John Yeats Margison Sr. may be the John Yates Margison who married 1899, to Sarah Ann Bull. Sarah Bull was born July 29, 1862 in Tring, Hertfordshire, England, [That would make Sarah 37 which might be old for a first marriage for either of them, but not for one of their second marriages. Things match nicely with John Yeats Margeson Sr.: his birthplace being the same as John Yeats Margison Jr., his living in San Diego, I would confirm things with a check of Hull, Yorkshire records or of San Diego court records for a divorce, but check for an 1890’s death in San Diego and British Columbia as well.]
In 1901, Mary Ellen Margison and her family lived on Amelia Street, Victoria and most of their boys were in the bookmaking trade. [The name John Yeats Margison, apparently is supposed to go back, without interruption, to the 1700’s.]
The children of John Yeats Margison Sr. and Mary Ellen ___:

Margeson [Note the J.] is listed in Victoria, BC, as a pressman. John Yeats Margeson married on September 16, 1908, in Victoria, British Columbia, Lydia Nute {Marriage Records British Columbia and Death Records British Columbia courtesy of Stan Rooney} Lydia Nute was b. @ 1885 in Plymouth, England {Int Gilbert Margeson} and died February 7, 1969 in Victoria, B. [I would recommend checking the 1910 census of San Diego as the gap between these possible children is rather wide. I would also check Middlesex and Yorkshire Census to see if this unusual name, John Yates Margeson, is more common than we imagined. The coincidence of the name going to the same place, San Diego, does make this very plausible. Richard Margison, though, noted a man named the same who lived in Kimberly, British Columbia.]
vi       possibly Daisy Margison b. 1901 in England m. 1922 in San Diego, California to Raymond Creese. Daisy reportedly immigrated @ 1904 to Canada and moved to San Diego in 1908. {WebKSmi}
vii       possibly Victor Bull Margeson b. Nov. 24, 1907 in Harrow, Middlesex, England m. April 8, 1928 in San Diego ___ Brown daughter of Thomas Jefferson Brown and Georgia Etta Freeman {WebCEdw}
[Richard Margison, ( boheme@aol.com genforum-Margison forum) a tenor at the New York Metropolitan Opera, descends from John Yeats Margison Jr. through Gilbert Margison. Cheryl Edwards (gabbynabby@aol.com WorldConnect) descends from John Yeats Margison Sr. through Victor Bull Margeson email: Kathy Smith krsmith56@hotmail.com may descend from this family through Daisy Margison wife of Raymond Creese (rootsweb message board)]
