My GGGrandfather was John Margison from Cairo, Greene County. On the 1870 census his name was transcribed as Margeson, but his tombstone (Hunter, NY) spells it Margison. I can find no record of him prior to 1870 when he was 53 years old. I am researching other Margison's and Margeson's from surrounding counties for his family prior to 1870. His wife's name was listed as Elizabeth, born 1828. There is a Elizabeth Haines from nearbyy Putnam county born around the same time. Any information would be appreciated.
