Hello Jay, It's good to know another descendant of Thomas. The following is based primarily on the book Descendants of Thomas Margeson by Alva Margeson mostly written in the 1960s. I obtained mine from Gerald Margeson in Avoca, New York, while on a trip to Ohio. There were three parts to the book, basically three books put together with new paginations to each section. Volume I relates researched information on Thomas Margeson, data on the New York connections, some data on Margesons of elsewhere, how the information was discovered, in depth descriptions of the family lands, history and geography of that region and the United States, and information on family reunions. Volume II is a genealogy of the following generations. Volume III is an address directory of Margesons of Thomas’ line living in the 1960’s or 1970’s. Alva wrote a marvelous book and, without it, the process of updating and the process of combining lines would be a humongous job. I have added cemetery records to this and extra information from Glenn Margeson’s book, “Imperishable Children”. Norris Margeson Whiston March 30, 2002 copy. Within { } are references Thomas Rogers Margeson was born January 6, 1761 at 2 o’clock in New York City and was the son of John Margeson Jr., carpenter, and Elizabeth Woortman. Thomas was baptised on February 27, 1761 at the First Presbyterian of New York City {ChNYCPresv5p37} {BibTMMar}. [I have noted John’s genealogy in the Colonial Margesons book already, but have a few more conjectures since added to my manuscript.] Thomas is probably the Thomas Merjerson, who, around 1776, was in the Dutchess County Militia - Third Regiment of Colonel John Morehouse and Colonel Andrew Morehouse {MilNYinRevp139-140}. If so, and the date is right, he would have joined at the age of 15. Regardless, Thomas somewhere along the way became a shoemaker. Thomas Margeson married @ 1783 Mary Brundage Mary Brundage was born Oct. 1763 in Fredrickstown, NY and was the daughter of Caleb and Susanna Brundage {BibTMarIp10c}. [Frederickstown was then part of Dutchess County, but is now called Kent, in Putnam County. {WebDut}. [See also on Brundage family {GenTMarI39,40}. Frederick Margeson is listed in the Census of Frederickstown in 1790, 1800, 1810, and in Kent, Putnam County in 1830] In 1793, Thomas Margeson is listed in the militia as living in Vernon, New York {HisNY1793}. Vernon is in Sussex County and is close to Warwick, Orange County, New York and Passaic County, New Jersey. Vernon sits along the Appalachian Mountains {WebVernon} In 1830, the family of another John Margeson is listed for Vernon. [Marty Crull and Gerry Shugars descend from that John Margeson.] In 1806, Thomas and Mary Margeson moved to the “Sutter”, “Sawter”, or “Sortis Place” {GenTMarI34,54}, Wayne, Steuben County, New York and continued to farm and his trade of shoemaking. {HisNYStep426} {GenTMarI14,35}. In 1810,Thomas and his son John are listed as head of households in Steuben County {CenNYSte1810#50}. In 1812, Thomas and Mary Margeson bought for $380, 120 acres along the shore of Keuka Lake, in Urbana, from Elisha Williams of Hudson, N.Y. On December 18, 1819, Thomas and Mary Margeson purchased for $85 another 110 acres from him. This farm was on both sides of the Lakeshore road, now crossed, closer to the lake, by the newer road, route 54 {GenTMarI35,48,58,59,63}. In 1813, Thomas built a log cabin and a barn on the shoreside and @ 1820 built a house across the road on the hillside. The property had apple orchards and vineyards. North Urbana is the adjacent communtiy to Wayne and only 3 and 1/2 miles from their home. In the opposite direction is Penn Yan 12 miles away {GenTMarIp35,56,59}{LdSte1812} {LdSte1819}. Thomas and Mary were Baptists and members of the North Urbana Baptist Church. In 1813, Thomas was elected deacon of the church with James Siblee {GenTMar38}. Thomas Margeson died in Wayne, New York in 1827 {GenTMarI13}. Mary (Brundage) Margeson died in May 7, 1835 buried Margeson Cemetery, Wayne, New York {CemWayMar} {GenTMarI63}.
