John Mackie was likely b. by 1750 but unknown whether he was born in America or the British Isles.
John Mackie m. Jean/Jane (unknown-maiden-name)sometime before 1781 when their first known child was likely born.
All of John & Jean's adult children who lived until the 1850 census reported that they had been born in Virginia. None lived to 1880 and so there is no report of where their parents were born!
John Mackie first appeared in Harrison County, Virginia tax lists in 1791 and disappeared from those lists after 1811. In the 1810 Federal Census for Harrison County there was this enumeration:
John was >44 yo: 00101 - 10001
John, jr. was 26-44 yo: 20010 - 10100
Mackie/Macky marriages in Harrison County, Virginia:
* Margaret Mackie to James Neal on 26 Mar 1796
* Catherine Mackie to Samuel Rogers on 12 Feb 1801
* John Mackie, jr. to Mary Plummer on 26 Sep 1803
* Ann Mackie to Wm. Randolph on 29 Dec 1803
* Mary Mackie to Stephen Bailey on 12 Oct 1807
* Mary Mackie to John Sloan on 27 Dec 1810
* Peggy Mackie to Peter Knight on 14 Apr 1829
In 1820 John Mackie senior and his wife were living in Scioto (near Chillicothe), Ross County, Ohio next door to their son-in-law, William Randolph, and their daughter, Ann. After that they disappear entirely but considering their ages I would suspect that they died in Ross County.
Is anyone researching this line who can suggest where John & Jean lived before arriving in Harrison County - where all their children were born?
We do have yDNA data for a descendant of this line. Check with me privately for information about that.
