Edward Burns Mackie

Hi,

I'm trying to find information on the ancestry of Edward Burns Mackie. He died in Albany, Western Australia in 1924. He married Hannah Amelia Thomas in 1874 in Albany.

His death certificate states that he was born in London in 1843/1844, but it is possible that he was born in Scotland (although a search of the ScotlandsPeople website doesn't bring up an entry for this). It also gives his parents as William Mackie and Elizabeth Burns.

He came to Australia c.1871 as a whaler having come from Fairhaven, Massachusetts U.S.A. worked as engine driver, labourer, painter & bootmaker in Albany.

There is a school report for Edward B Mackie in Fairhaven, Massachusetts, in 1857, but the 1860 US census doesn't seem to list any correct Mackies in that area.

I'm not finding anything of use on the IGI or on Ancestry about the family.

Does any of that ring any bells with people out there????

Many thanks!

Dominic
