I've just discovered some MACKIEs who emigrated to Portland in Oregon in 1891. The parents were John MACKIE and Isabella MACKIE (nee KIRKWOOD). John died in 1896 I believe. They had children James D MACKIE (a cement salesman who married I believe a Margaret SCOTT), Charles Shirreff MACKIE (who married Anna TAIT and had a daughter Jean MACKIE born in 1920), John MACKIE (who was a teacher according to the census), and Arthur Ernest MACKIE (who was a farmer). In the 1900, 1910 and 1930 censuses the family remained in Portland. John MACKIE senior had a brother Henry, and I have a feeling he may have emigrated too, as in the 1900 census, there is a nephew, Fred L MACKIE living with the family and Henry is the only possible father (as far as I know!). John senior and Henry also had a sister, Mary, who married a SHANKS and emigrated to the US as well. I've known about the SHANKS in the US for some time, but these other MACKIE's are new to me! So does anyone have any MACKIE's in Portland around this time who also have SHANKS, SCOTTS and TAITS in the family? Notify Administrator about this message?
