Might the MacWia or variants be MacPhee? The island of Wiay off the SE coast of Benbecula is pronounced approximately fweeay and I could see a clerk writing the name of the MacPhees that way. As they were the keepers of the archives for the Lords of the Isles and then for Clan Donald South, it would make sense for a representative to appear on Islay. Given Gaelic pronunciation, it is not so apparent how MacAulay should be written in that way.
