The Samuel Lett to whom you refer almost certainly came from Enniscorthy, Co Wexford. Enniscorthy was one of the centres of the Wexford Lett family. A number of the Enniscorthy Letts emigrated to Canada from the late 18th century onwards, including the Rev Stephen Lett of Collingwood in the mid 19th century. From an old family manuscript, I would suggest that this Samuel Lett was possibly the son of Henry Lett, who appears to have moved from Enniscorthy to Liverpool.
I have a lot of information on the Irish Lett family, although a lot of it is annoyingly anecdotal, and lacking in dates and detail.
How much do you already know about the Irish roots?
The Irish Lett family, which spread world wide, originates from Richard Lett of Churchill, Worcestshire, England, whose will is dated 15th May 1601. Burke's Landed Gentry, 18th edition Volume 3 [1972] has authenticated details of my father's line.
