Note: Benjamin Lett, "Patriot" of the Canadian Rebellion 1838-1839, -actually 1841, was the son of Elizabeth Warren and Samuel Lett, whose grandmother was Elizabeth Jacobus according to Sam's 2nd son, TOM. Ben's mother was Not "Jane". Sam & Elizabeth had children: Robert Thomas John Ben Elizabeth Ann Maria Sarah OKay: one more time on these northern IL/LaSalle Co LETTs. THESE Letts were from Wexford IRE, and went to Canada c1819. daughters Maria and Sarah born in Ontario Canada. Sam died in Canada; He fell off a grain wagon & broke his neck. His wife and children stayed on their farm, which was eyed by greedy British. Ben was attacked by the Irish British 1837, refused to join & attack his neighbor, and Ben joined the Rebels. He gave the British holy hell 1837-1841. Elizabeth and sons BOB, TOM, JOHN, and all 4 daughters were attacked by British in retaliation of Ben's heroics, and the family sold out & fled to TX c1839. mother Mrs Elizabeth Warren Lett [widow of Sam] & dau Ann and Tom's NY wife Sophie died there within 2wks of fever. THESE Remaining LETTs went up MISSISSIPPI>ILLINOIS RIVERs to OTTAWA LASALLE CO ILLINOIS their pre-arranged meeting place where they awaited brother BEN, who was ratted out and went to NY prison etc etc etc. Ben was murdered by Bristish agents in 1858 etc etc. Tom and Bob lived to ripe old ages in LASALLE CO IL. John LETT was in OTTAWA LASALLE CO IL and the family bios never mentioned him but for 1 time in an obit. I WAS TOLD HE WAS PART OF THEIR 1849 GOLD RUSH EXPEDITION TO CALIFORNIA AND HE DIED c1850. A LOT OF LETT IN-LAWS DIED IN 1850 LASALLE CO ILLINOIS. I HOPE THIS HELPS> THESE LETTS WERE OBVIOUSLY RELATED TO LETTS IN IRELAND ---- BUT NOT TO ANY LETTS IN ILLINOIS, AND THEY NEVER SPOKE OR WROTE OF ANY OTHER LETT FAMILY CONNECTIONS IN ANY OTHER U.S. STATES. THEY WERE THERE IN ILLINOIS "ALONE". THEY HAD A LOT OF INLAWS BACK IN NEW YORK. Notify Administrator about this message?
