Re: Tharp SPENCE - 1740's VA Posted by: Terry Sampson Date: November 08, 2001 at 12:34:30 In Reply to: Tharp SPENCE - 1740's VA by Roy Susan Whitsett of 2233 National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. 54, No. 1, March 1966. The Telamon Cuyler Collection at Univ. of Georgia Library includes the 18 Oct 1787 Petition of residents of Captains Lett, Green, and Whitaker's Districts in Burke Co. GA to the General Assembly Executive Council in Augusta GA asking for 50 men and horses to man and fortify Fort Wood located on the North Side of the Ogeechee, one mile from lower corner of Washington Co. [I believe this Fort was located in an area which became Jefferson Co. GA.] Among the signers: Moses, Tharp, and John Spence. Spence is not my line, but if you come across documented presence of a Nathaniel Hicks of Burke/Washington/Montgomery/Laurens Co. GA, I would appreciate hearing about it. Good luck.
