I'm trying to verify lore about an explosion that killed a number of Reserve members during the Korean War/Conflict.
My father re-enlisted after serving in the Pacific during WWI. I believe he enlisted at Ft. MacPherson,Atlanta, Ga. It must have been 1949/50 he was facing a callup, but was able to recieve a Dependants Discharge because he had by then young children, and would otherwise had to leave with the rest of his unit....Sorry, I don't have that unit's idenity.
When I interviewed Daddy while working on Family history, he told me that he learned later that his entire (most of?) unit perished in a single explosion in Korea.
Does anyone know the circumstances of this? or if in fact it may have happened at all.
My father was like many men of his generation, never talking of his experiences, he was in his 80's at the time of our conversation, and perhaps he felt he could at last speak of his time in service...although briefly.
Daddy has since passed away, and I have added this lore to my formal work, but would like to find more information if possible.
