THERE WERE MANIONS IN MY FAMILY

In Reply to: Re: DESCENDANTS OF PATRICK KEAN OR THOMAS GARY/GEARY OF MICHIGAN by Joanne Weimer of 295

INFO FROM MY COUSIN MOLLY SCHULTZ IN MICHIGAN REGARDING GRAVES OF THE GARRY/GEARY/GEAREY/KEAN FAMILY MEMBERS, MARKED AND UNMARKED, IN THE GARRY AND KEAN/CARY PLOTS OF HOLY CROSS CEMETERY MARINE CITY, MICHIGAN, NEAR COTRELLVILLE/COTTREVILLE:

Italic notes in parentheses were added by Molly. Joanne is the daughter of Molly. Molly and Joanne are descended from Ann Garry, sister of #2 John Garry below who is my gggrandfather.

1. "Thomas Geary's plot has 6 grave sites.
No.1 lists Thomas, age 70, widower of Mary Craig, death date 12-11-1896.
2. is John Garry, death date 1872
3. is Mary wife of Thomas
4. is Francis, age 3, son of Thomas and Anna Gibbons,
death date 1889"
NOTE FROM PATTI:
#1 WOULD BE THE BROTHER OF #2
#2 WOULD BE THE HUSBAND OF CATHERINE KEAN WHO WAS THE SISTER OF PATRICK J. KEAN. IF YOUR INFO ON THOMAS KEAN IS CORRECT, PATRICK AND CATHERINE WOULD BE THE BROTHER AND SISTER OF YOUR THOMAS KEAN. CATHERINE, MY GGGRANDMOTHER, IS BURIED IN MINNEWAUKAN, NORTH DAKOTA.
#3 WOULD BE THE WIFE OF #1
#4 WOULD BE THE GRANDSON OF #2 BY HIS SON THOMAS GARRY/GEARY WHO WAS BORN DECEMBER 1850 MARINE CITY MICHIGAN AND WHOSE FIRST WIFE WAS ANNA GIBBON/GIBBONS OF NY. MOLLY AND JOANNE MIGHT HAVE THE NAME OF THE SECOND WIFE.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. " The Kean/Cary plot lists:
Lucas, age 38, son of Thomas, death
date 1903
Thomas, age 78, widower of Bridget, death date 1896
Bridget, age 51, death date 1881"
(Note added by Molly: Isn't this the grave that has Patsy Kean's stone?)
NOTE FROM PATTI: PATSY KEAN IS PATRICK J. KEAN DIED 1903 AGE 70. THE KEAN PLOT IS IN A BACK CORNER OF THE CEMETERY AT A CURVE IN THE ROAD.

ARE THESE THE GRAVES OF YOUR THOMAS AND BRIDGET KEAN?

I AM SURE THERE IS A BRIDGET KEAN MONUMENT RIGHT NEAR THE GRAVE OF JOHN #2 ABOVE. THIS WOULD BE IN A DIFFERENT PART OF THE CEMETERY FROM THE KEAN PLOT. THE GARRY PLOT IS BETWEEN THE ENTRANCE ROAD AND THE CHAPEL. IF I AM RIGHT THERE ARE TWO BRIDGET KEANS BURIED AT HOLY CROSS CEMETERY - ONE IN THE KEAN PLOT, ONE RIGHT NEAR JOHN GARRY'S GRAVE

3. " I also looked for info on the Craig/Milot issue. The Michael you wondered about is one of those buried in the plot 23
Michael Craig, death date 1902 (Birthdate 1840)*
Anna Milot, death date, 1896 (Birthdate 1858)*
Michael D. Milot, death date 1900 (Birthdate 1858)*"
(*These are the birthdates Joanne copied from the stones. We believe that Anna is Michael's wife, the mother of Johnny Milot of boat racing fame. It is possible that Michael Craig is Mary Craig's brother. Mary Craig is Michael Milot's mother and second wife of Uncle Thomas Geary. As noted in section 1, she is buried with Thomas and his brother John.)

NOTE FROM PATTI - THE JOHN REFERRED TO ABOVE IS #2 JOHN GARRY DIED 1872 AGE 59. HIS WIFE WAS CATHERINE KEAN, SISTER OF PATRICK J. KEAN. CATHERINE AND PATRICK KEAN WOULD HAVE BEEN THE SISTER AND BROTHER OF YOUR THOMAS KEAN WHO MARRIED BRIDGET MANION, IF WE ARE CORRECT HERE.
BELOW IS A NOTE FROM THE VOLUNTEER WHO DID THE LOOK-UPS IN OLD CEMETERY RECORDS FOR MOLLY:
"In all but the last three listings, I gave you whatever I could find from a series of references. Not all give complete information. That's a
difficulty in old cemeteries. But I think this may answer some questions
for you. On behalf of the parish, I also want to thank you for your kind
donations which will be used by the cemetery committee which is slooowly trying to preserve old markers."

(You can also find this information in the main library in Port Huron's cemetery records. Perhaps you can
also find it online.)
*******************************************************
FURTHER NOTES FROM COUSIN MOLLY:
This is what I have on the Manions in my family file:

They connect to Anna Gibbons, wife of Thomas Garry through her brother and sister who married into the Manion Family.

Father is Andrew Manion and wife Maria Kilmar

Two of their children are:

Herbert Manion born 1856 died 1891, married Delia Gibbons

Maria Manion married Michael Gibbons

NOTE FROM PATTI:
ANNA GIBBONS MARRIED THOMAS GARRY BORN 1850 MARINE CITY, MI.
THOMAS GARRY, WAS THE SON OF JOHN GARRY #2 ABOVE, THE FATHER OF #4 ABOVE. IF WE ARE CORRECT, THE BRIDGET MANION/THOMAS KEAN MARRIAGE WOULD BE ONE OF THREE CONNECTING THE FAMILIES.
