I have a letter from a E. Pendergast, most likely written to his sister Catherine Pendergast Kane, although I am not aware of any brothers at this time. The letter was among letters written to Catherine Kane or to her son-in-law, John Redmond, both of whom resided in Lowell, Mass. The letter is as follows: 2nd US Cavalry Comp - near Winchester VA April 8th 1865 My dear sister I am now sit down or rather lye down to answer your letter of the 2nd. I am glad to know that you are all well. Give my mother my love and tell her that I will never forget her as long as I live. Tell her to keep up her spirits until I come home. Let me know in your next if John is working. I am sorry that you didnot hear from Johny Mc Laughx. You want me to tell you all Well all I have to tell you is this - that I got a hundred dollars bounty and lost it in one hour afterwords. But if I stay for three years I will get three hundred more. that is all I have to tell you. Pat Furlong is here but I couldnot go to see him.
