KAIN, 74, WELL-KNOWN RESIDENT, DIES INSURANCE MAN LIVED IN HELENA FOR OVER HALF CENTURY George M. Kain, 74, well-known insurance man and resident of Helena for 56 years, died this morning at St. Peter's hospital after an illness of several years. Mr. Kain's health had been failing since he sufffered a heart ailment while vacationing at Polson two years ago. He remained active until a short while ago. Born in Quincy, Mass., April 28, 1872, he moved to Liverpool, England, with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Kain, when he was a child. As a youth of 16 he came to the United States and Helena in 1889. During his early years here, Mr. Kain was a stonemason and was associated with his father who operated a quarry at Ten Mile. Decorative and building stones from the Kain quarry were used in the construction of the buildings in Helena at the turn of the century. An injury to his foot forced him to cease his craft as a stonemason. He served as justice of the peace of Helena township and operated an insurance business until several years ago when he took the position of bailiff for department No. 1 of the first judicial district. In addition to his widow, Mrs. Annie Kain of 505 North Ewing, Mr. Kain is surved by two daughters, Mrs. Ann Christiansen and Mrs. Louise Pence, both of Helena; a son, George B. Kain of Hot Springs and one granddaughter; five brothers, Henry, John, Edmond, Alfred and Charles Kain, all of Helena; three sisters, Mrs. Henry Adami and Mrs. W.C. McHattie of Helena and Mrs. Florence Starley of Long Beach and many nieces and nephews. The body it at Opp-Conrad-Retz funeral home.
