A lister to the Argyll Board has provided me with details of the above couple who may be my gggg grandparents. They had a son James born in 1826 at Campbeltown Sco.

I have an 1841 Census record in Campbeltown Argyll Sco which shows a Margaret Whiteford (50), Cathrine (20) and James (15)who is my ggg grandfather listed at Big Kiln. There is no mention of Alexander. The Census records shows they were from Ireland so I cannot be sure that the lister who provided me with details of the couple has the right couple given the differnece in James birthplace.

Alexander may have been a fisherman. Later family information notes James's father was "Captain" Whiteford. Campbeltown listers have indicated there were a number of Whiteford families involved in the fishing industry. They have indicated that the families all came from Antrim in Nthn Ireland.

Does anybody know of a Kain/Cane & Whiteford connection either in Scotland or Ireland?
