Hello Zlatica, My name is Bradlee, and I found your name on one of the Genforum's postings about Eastern Europe genealogy. My great-great-grandmother Mrs. Anna (nee Vodilka) Manczos/Mancos emigrated to U.S. on 24 May 1899, arriving in port of New York, on ship S.S. Kensington according to the manifest from the port of Antwerp, Belgium to join her husband Jozef Manczos (American version: Joseph Mancos) who were already here in US. Additional information has shown that they originated from Töke-Terebes in Zemplén County in former Austro-Hungarian Empire (which falls in now in I believe present-day Trebišov, Slovakia). At this point, I am still not sure exactly when Joseph Mancos came to America, which could have been sometime before November 27, 1882, since his first and oldest child was born here in America in Tazewell County, Virginia according to the son’s voters’ registration card. 1910 Census stated that Anna is an Alien. No document(s) has been found supporting Anna being naturalized in United States. She probably never went though the legal process of becoming a Natural Citizen until her death. They later settled in small coal-mining town of Pocahontas, Virginia where Joseph worked as a coal miner. They reared 7 children (4 from his previous marriage) who spell their surname either Mancos or Mances. I am interested in finding more about their parents and ancestors overseas in the old country of Austria-Hungary Empire before the turn of century. I was wondering if there is a place that I can contact or search for information such as archives or parishes in that village (if they have one there?) and if there is any resource I can turn to since I do not know Hungarian or Slovak language. I also am interested in if you can tell me how and where to get started and what direction to lead on, which would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Bradlee Notify Administrator about this message?
