Names do disappear either because the person dies and there are no heirs (but apparently not in your case), because the name is changed, or because it has been transcribed incorrectly.

What about the 1917 WWI registration for Peter "Jankgs" in Pittsburg, married with child. The registration seems to imply that Peter was illiterate, that the information was provided by a Peter Schwanket (or similar), as that is who signed the form. Date of birth is given only as 1890, in "Russia."

I have not been successful in finding Peter either. Do you have anything that suggests other spellings of the name? Other residences? Names of wife and children? You say his father also immigrated. What was his name? Any information at all would help.

Janet
