Juras is a form of George and is also found under the Hungarian form György. Peter Jonkesz immigrated in 1905 to his uncle in Perth Amboy. They were both from Gerény, now Horjani in Ukraine. This small village just southeast of Ungvar (now Uzhorod) was almost entirely composed of Greek Catholic Ruthenians.

It looks like George may have made at least two trips to America, possibly three (1891, 1895, 1905). He may have lived in Binghamton NY in 1910, boarding with the family of John and Mary Polak.

LDS has recently released a large number of microfilmed Greek Catholic church records from the Ungvar region. However, they are all written in Cyrillic.
