There is an immigration record for a "Lorneez" [should be Lorincz] Nemeth through the port of Halifax, Nova Scotia, aboard the Uranium. He was born about 1891, which fits your Lawrence exactly. His destination at that time was East Chicago, Illinois, to his brother-in-law Michal Zsoldos. [I could not find an immigration record for Michal.] Lorincz's father's name was Lajos and he was born in "Lipapusta." Unfortunately this could refer to a variety of places in historic Hungary, including places in present-day Slovenia, Croatia and Romania. Since you have a firm date of birth, it might be worth your while to look for his birth in any of the several possible villages. One is Kisbereny in Somogy county. ("Two farm estates, Gyula-puszta and Lippa-puszta, used to belong to the village [of Kisbereny]....") Another is Kislippa in old Zala county. This might refer either to Lippa or Lippahocz, which today are neighboring villages in Slovenia. Church records for these two villages would be found with Turnisce and Beltinci, Slovenia. If these don't work out, we might find other possibilities. This doesn't help you with the Kovach connection, but the fact that Kovach/Kovacs/Kovats and Nemet/Nemeth names are so very common, you will have a difficult task. Good luck to you, Janet Notify Administrator about this message?
