Elizabeth Horn - Horne - de' Horne, born 1786 in MD

I have been told that if our Elizabeth's name ended in e, OR it was truly de'Horn or de'Horne representing French descent, I should be looking for her and her parents among the southern families of Horn(e) or de'Horne. If her name was simply Horn, she probably came from the northern families.

Is there any truth to this statement?

Our Elizabeth is listed on the 1850 census as having been born in Maryland. The 1870 Mortality Schedule information states that she was born in Maryland.

Family letters from the 1930's state her name was Horn(e). . .and infers that it was really de'Horne. One letter suggests that she was of French descent, her people having suffered religious persecution and they left France emigrating to the US.

The author of the letter is known for embellishing the family line somewhat, so we are cautious about that statement. In over 50 years of family research, we have never found any record of Elizabeth stating/writing her maiden name.

We have no record of her parents names, nor how she got from Maryland to "somewhere along the Kentucky River". A deposition places her there, but not exactly where, +/-1807. We have found in Madison County, Kentucky a family of Horns, along with Robinsons (she married William Robinson), and various other family names that connect to this couple, i.e. Comptons and Pittmans. However, we could not place either Elizabeth "Betsy" into that Horn family, nor the William Robinson into that Robinson family.

Our Elizabeth was born April 21, 1786 in Maryland, and died in Burleson County, Texas on September 21, 1869.

She was married to William Robinson and they had 11 children as follows:

Finnetta Lourena
Benjamin W. Julia L.
Cynthia Ann Elizabeth JR
George Washington William JR
Sarah D. Joshua Davidson
Polly Ann

Elizabeth and William Robinson met in Kentucky, and we believe they traveled through Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, into NW Louisiana, then entered Texas in December of 1829 from Natchitoches, LA to Nacogdoches, and then settled in what became Walker County, Texas near Huntsville.

I found the names Andrew Horn and Samuel Horn on the 1789 petition of settlers living south of the French Broad River in Tennessee. They were petitioning the government of North Carolina to provide them protection from the Indians and recognition. On the same petition and very near their names was the name of William Compton. I have thought perhaps Elizabeth might have been a daughter of one of them, but neither name shows up among her children.

Does anyone have information that might help me with Elizabeth?

Thank you for your time and attention to my request for information.
