A biography of Joseph H. Horn, Bigfork, MT, is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, page 860.

Joseph was born in Canada, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Illingworth) Horn, both natives of England. He was educated in Canada and at the age of 12 came to the US and finished his education at St. Paul and other towns in Minnesota. In 1889, Joseph moved to Helena, MT, where he was employed by the Lindsey Co. He moved to Demersville, and later to Kalispell when that town took over and absorbed Demersville. For fifteen years he was connected with the Colon Mercantile Company. Later he moved to Bigfork and engaged in business for two years, then helped organize the Flathead Commercial Company, one of the largest stores in that section of Montana.

Joseph married Alida Guernon, a native of St. Paul, and the daughter of a well-known physician of that city. Horn children: Gladys, d. age 9; Hazel, d. age 3-1/2; Margaret, d. in infancy; Harry I, Kalispell, MT.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Horn will be held Thursday afternoon, May 31, at 2:30 at Christ's Church, Episcopal, Rev. Charles Wilson officating. Internment will be in Conrad Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Sherman & Son.

J.H. Horn, 85, Bigfork, Dies
Joseph Henry Horn of Bigfork died in Kalispell Thursday night after a lingering illness. Mr. Horn, 85, came to the Flathead in Demersville days and worked for the Conlon Mercantile Co., later came to Kalispell and in 1904 associated himself with the firm Horn and Smith in Bigfork and conducted a mercantile store. He retired about 1940 and since then has made his home in Bigfork. He is survived by his wife, Mattie, at home, and one son, Harry Horn, now in business in Anaheim, CA. Buriel will be in Conrad Memorial Cemetery.

An obituary of Joseph H. Horn's second wife, Martha J. (Bartlett, Paul) Horn, died at the home of her son, Dr. Oran Bartlett, in Gresham, OR. Harry Horn was living at Anaheim, CA.
