W. H. in Phillips Co., AR in 1880

This family is found in Spring Creek Township, Phillips County, Arkansas, pg.326D in the 1880 census:
W. H. Herritage, farmer, male, white, 32, born MS, father SC, mother AL; Sarah, wife, 22, AL, parents AL; Richard, son 12, MS.

I believe my great grandfather, 23 year old Joseph K. Mattingly is the person enumerated with them in the 1880 census, no relationship given. To complicate matters, he is indexed and in the transcribed census records as Jos. Maddingly, yet a look at the census record shows Mattingly.

Our family story is that Joseph Mattingly came from Illinois to stay with relatives and work in the timber industry. I would like to hear from anyone who knows anything about this Herritage/Heritage family.
