The lineage of Elizabeth (Willett) Hallett was published in our journal, The New York Genealogical and Biographical Record, in 1949 (vol. 80). Rosalie F. Bailey, a very highly regarded genealogist, wrote an article “The Willett Family of Flushing,” in which she shows the following lineage:
1. Thomas Willett (c1620-1647) from Bristol,
England, to New Amsterdam, m. Sarah Cornell
2. Thomas Willett (1645-1722) of Flushing
m. Helena Stoothoff
3. Thomas Willett (1672-1724) m. Sarah Hinchman
4. John Willett (c1700-1787) m. 1722 Elizabeth
Lawrence (b. 1707)
5. Elizabeth Willett m. Thomas Hallett
However, this is not the family of Thomas Willett, first Mayor of New York City, despite having the same name. In the same year (1949) we published an article on Mayor Thomas Willett, by Elizur Y. Smith. He shows that Mayor Thomas only lived in New York briefly, and returned to live at Swansea, Mass., where he left descendants. As far as we know, no one has proved any connection between these two Willett families.
Some of our Willett family ancestors were quite prominent. Thomas of the second generation was a member of both the Council and Assembly (the two houses of the N.Y. colonial legislature) and held other offices as well, all detailed by Miss Bailey in her article.
The NYG&B Record is available in several libraries in the NYC area. The Willett of Flushing article was also reprinted in the two-volume Genealogies of Long Island Families (1987), published by Genealogical Publishing Co. of Baltimore and later released by them on CD-ROM.
On the Halletts, don’t overlook the account in Delafield, A Family History (1945), by John R. Delafield. It is also in local libraries and is available electronically through HeritageQuest Online (which is available to NYG&B members through thier website).

John Hallett Briggs Jr. married Serena C. Baldwin 09-06-1897
in Brooklyn.((Wife - Serena C. Baldwin born 03-03-1873 Daughter of Charles E. Baldwin and Elmira Haviland.))
They had the following children :
1. Gladys Briggs Born 09-01-1899 Brooklyn married 1st
Herman Weitz & 2nd Ludwig Blendermann.
2. Ada Born 08-15-1901 married "Schmitt"
3. Lillian Born 10-16-1903 married Metzger
Gladys Briggs & Herman Weitz had the following children.
Edward Lawrence Weitz a.k.a. "Buster" (adopted to the name Blendermann) b. 04/07/1919 d. 08/19/2001 @1915 hours. He had the following children....
