Jacob Andreas Hertzog was listed in "Immigrants to the Middle Colonies, A Consolidation of Ship Passenger Lists and Associated Data from the New York Genealogical and Biographical Record; Edited by Michael Tepper; Genealogical Publishing Company, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland, 1978.", showing that he had arrived in St. Catherine's, England on the 2nd of June 1709. It doesn't tell what boat they were on.
The website for G.G. Hertzog has also been a mystery to me. Mary Mae shows no connection for them either. Andrew Hertzog's father was supposedly George and the following information is available on him:
"Came to America, with his son, Gorg, Junior, Sept. 15, 1749, in the ship Phoenix, John Mason, Master, from Rotterdam, but last from Cowes. (550 whole freights, from Zweybrech, Nassau, Wirtemberg, and the Palatinate.) Took oath of allegiance at the Court House in Philadelphia on Friday, the 15th Septr. 1749."
I have no idea about the Schmidt family, but the dates seem a little late. It is also possible that some of the Herzog's went back and forth to Germany. I am not sure what passage would have cost then, but Anna Margaretha (Kuntz) Hertzog had a good sum of money in her estate when she died. Using tables that would convert theamount of money in 1783 to present value, it was about $30,000. Could they have sent sons back to Germany for education or upbringing with grandparents or marriage and then they returned? The British colonists did not trust the Germans and so an oath of allegiance would have been administered each time they came to the colonies.
