Linked to posting by John on March 6, 2004: "I have often wondered about others with the Herzog, Hertzog, hartsock, hartsook, Harsough name in Maryland and Viriginia........."I initially thought the father of Peter (Pieter) was Jacob Andreas Herzog who arrived in the colonies in 1709 fresh fromn the Bas Rhin (so called Palatinate) on the same boat as another Hertzog by the name of Caspar. On that same boat was one Nicol Kuntze and Jacob Cramer. John, do you know the name of the ship and did it put in at Philadelphia or New York??? On Aug 15, 1750, imported in the Ship royal Union 156 p. List, 350 Whole Freights, 500 Souls, Andreas Hertzog, Casper Schmidt, Ludwig von der Schmidt, Hans smith, Martin Schmitt. (Pennsylvania German Pioneers by Ralph Beaver Strassburger andWilliam John Hinke.) Do you know where this ship put in at??? Check the following website www.chartiers.com/beers-project/articles/hertzog-244.html. If this family has researched their family tree just maybe it goes back to Nuiwed and we could make a connection. (That would be just to easy.) I have a hunch Pieter left some brothers in the Palitinate. Note Andreas came in 1750. Notice all the Schmidts (Schmidten). And then we have William and Anglebert Hartsock's as witnesses to Martin Smith's will in 1780-81. Hertzogen is the feminine form of Hertzog. Do you suppose Schmidten is the feminine form of Schmidt????? We also have an Andrew Hertzog son of Gorg Hartzog as serving in the Rev. war. Notify Administrator about this message?
