Dear Abby,

I see a Bessa M. Hartsock, daughter of Asa Eli and Annie V. Hartsock, who was born around 1874 in the census of 1880 for Flintstone, Allegheny County,Maryland. From the records of Becci Hartsock-Haines, her mother was the first wife of Asa Eli and her name is only known by the initials A.M. Becci also shows that Asa Eli is the son of William and Christina / Tena (Robinette) Hartsock,and was born around 1845/47 in Maryland. In the census of 1880, Asa Eli is shown as a 33 year old tannery worker and his wife Annie V. is shown as being 31 years old.

I have been trying to tie this family to my relatives in Frederick County, but have had no luck in doing so. I would appreciate any information you or anyone might have concerning this link.
