Hi, Janice -- I am descended from Louis Andre Giraud and Jeanne Negrier (New Orleans) through their daughter Maria Jeanne Giraud or Giraut (Adelaide's sister). We have St. Louis Cathedral records that she was born June 23, 1760, and we have her Cathedral marriage certificate to Jean Baptiste Doby in 1796. I am trying to find out more about Maria Jeanne's children, especially Florentine (my g-g-g-grandmother).
I live in Georgia but was born in Pascagoula, Ms, and still have family on the Ms coast. I would love to know if you know any more about Adelaide and her sisters and brothers (I think there were a lot of them!). I read in one genealogy web site that Etienne (Louis Andre's father) came to this country with the Jesuits for some sort of silkworm project. I've learned to look for Giraud in a number of spellings -- I think the Cathedral even uses Jiraut in some instances. Would like to hear from you and compare notes.
