Generations 8.0 and Vista

I'm new to Generations. My sister has done much work using Generations 8.0. I now want to continue her work but my computer is a laptop with Vista.

I've read that buying 8.5 is the way to go even though I'm not convinced anyone has gotten it to work.

If I buy this version will the software that comes with 8.0 work? And will I be able to load the data that my sister has already done.
