I was very happy to hear from you! I had taken a break from researching the Dews family because I had hit a bit of a roadblock. I haven't been able to find much information about the Dews family. Here's what I have been able to piece together:
My great grandfather was George Dews. George's parents were Coleman and Martha Dews. He married Lucy Wallace in 1898. Lucy and George lived on Hill Grove Road in Pittsylvania County. They had the following children: Oscar, Walter, Henry, Johnie, Mary (who died at age 7), Earl, James (who was my grandfather; we called him Parker), Martha and Charlie. From what I have been able to gather, Lucy died between 1910 and 1919. Then George married Kate White in 1919. They had one daughter named Shirley. George apparently died in 1920. As far as George and Lucy's children are concerned, I don't know what happened to most of them. I know that Walter and Martha left the area and moved to New Jersey. Johnie moved to West Virginia. He died in 1988 in a small town named Wyco, WV. Parker went on to marry Ellen Moon and died in 1979. My dad says that most of his father's people lived in Hurt and Alta Vista. Unfortunately his parents separated when he was young and didn't get to know any of Parker's people. Because of that, he really doesn't know much about his father's family.
I hope that you will be able to help me in my search. If I've mentioned any Dews family names that you are familiar with, please let me know! I'll greatly appreciate any piece of information that you can provide since I'm truly stumped.
