Joyce Marie Homan was born on March 27, 1927, on a farm near Avoca, Minnesota to Elmer and Rosalia Illg Deslauriers. She grew up on the farm. In 1934, the family moved to Currie, Minnesota. Joyce graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary High School in 1945. On June 24, 1946, she and Marcel Homan were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie. Following their marriage, they made their home in Adrian, Minnesota and Worthington, Minnesota for a short time. In 1947, they moved to Slayton, Minnesota and raised their five children. Joyce worked at the Slayton Public School as a teacher aide for 17 years. Marcel passed away on April 15, 1991. Joyce remained in their home following Marcel’s death. Joyce passed away on August 30, 2007, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 80. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church in Slayton. Joyce was active in the W. C. C. W. where she served as president for four years. Joyce also was president of the Slayton Deanery for five years. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and served as recording secretary and trustee. Joyce enjoyed spending time and visiting with her family and friends, playing cards, crafts and Friday morning coffee group.
Survivors include her five children and their families: Jim and Donna Homan, Mankato, MN and their children: Rev. Melanie Homan and Brennon Schaefer, and Jamie Homan Anthony and Todd Anthony; Dave and Sue Homan, Redwood Falls, MN and their children: Dr. David and Lindsey Homan and Libby and Tim Joyce; Rick and Cathy Homan, Marshall, MN and their children: Tom, Kim, and Jenny Homan; Cindy and Lonnie Trasamar, Blue Earth, MN, and their children: Ryan and Jon Trasamar; and Lori and Craig Christiansen. Mankato, MN and their children: Brianna, Cara, and Andrew Christiansen; three sisters: Helen Staples, Tacoma, WA; Ethel Madson, Westbrook, MN; Verdella Slater, St. Paul, MN; and one brother Norbert Deslauriers and his wife Phyllis, Canby, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Marcel.
Funeral services were held at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. Special music by Julie and Bob Dickhudt and Kim Homan. The pallbearers were her grandchildren. Interment at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Slayton, MN.
