George Bowers - 5th Dragoons

My great grandfather George Bowers bought himself out of the 5th Dragoons in 1859 when his father died and he was to take over the family business. He was born in 1837 in Stockport and would have been 17 at the outbreak of the Crimean War. I know that there were many men of that age taking part in the conflict. Is there any way I can find if he took part in the war itself or find any other details. I realise that there is not a lot of information to go on. He is not listed in those injured in the reports on hometown.aol.co.uk/heatherasplin/home.
