Herb,

Jacob was the son of Johannes Grimm ( later 'John CRIM ' in VA ) and wife Gertrud. Johannes - or John - married Catherine after Gertrud died , but there are no known children from this marriage.{ Johannes Grimm and his brother, Hans Jacob Grimm landed in Philadelphia in Dec. 1740. The two of them later appear in Fauquier and Culpeper Counties, VA }. The records in Virginia indicate that Johannes and wife Gertrud had five sons,
John,Jr.; Harmon; Joseph; Jacob; and Peter.

The first record I have of "our" Jacob Crim in Stokes County, NC is his name on a tax list for 1799. Before that he and his family were in Culpeper County, VA where he and wife Mary were last heard from in 1798 when they sold 96 acres to Matthew House,Jr.. In the 1800 census of Stokes County, NC Jacob appears as the head of household over 14 people. From this census and from the tithables lists of Culpeper County, VA I concluded that Jacob was probably born about 1750. From marriage records, deeds, and Jacob's will I have concluded that Jacob had ( at least ) eleven children.
