Smith Colyer (f/o Cornelius Colyer) md. Angeline Remsen

Looking for information on parents of Cornelius R. Colyer. Here is what I have:

Colyer-Remsen Notes
Census data supports fact that Cornelius R Colyer (1837) had 5 children by 1870, including Frank (1869) and Smith Conklin (1857). (I don’t see Henry, who may simply have been born after the 1870 census.)
Cornelius’ parents, per son Frank Chase Colyer’s DAR lineage, were Angeline Remsen and Smith Colyer. I have been unable to find any records of Smith or Angeline Remsen. Census records show that in 1850, Cornelius was living (as a Livery Stable apprentice?) with childless M/M Wm Figney along with (presumed) sister Esther Colyer (b. 1846). There is also an Angeline Colyer living with two other children, Stephen-1840 and Rachel-1850. Based on Rachel’s age, Angeline’s husband must have died just before 1850. The fact that Angeline was living next door to Sarah E. Youngs (1836), later to become Frank-1869’s wife, supports the fact that this Angeline was Angeline Remsen, and that her (late) husband was Smith Colyer (if we take the DAR record as reliable: it is reasonable to assume that Frank knew the first name of his own grandfather, even though he died before Frank was born).

Other Databases/Contacts:
R. Clarke-
Has a Cornelis Calyer (b. 1830), which is almost certainly a different person from our Cornelius Colyer (b. 1837). An Elizabeth Remsen is shown to be Cornelis-1830’s step mother. There is no parentage listed for Elizabeth.
Susan Wyckoff-
Also has some Calyers and many Remsens (including Cornelis and Elizabeth). This database shows Cornelis-1830 as being son (vs. step son) of Elizabeth. Also no heritage for Elizabeth.
Dan Gamber-
All Caljers, no Remsens.
No sign in any of these three databases of any of Remsens shown in Frank Colyer’s DAR record (Cornelius-1785, Abraham-1730, or Rem-1694).

Joseph Colyer Connection?
MJ Colyer, whom I have emailed, is the granddaughter of Russel C. Colyer, s/o Smith C.-1857. She has shared contents of a letter to Col. Joseph H. Colyer, Jr., in which Russel speculates that their parents were first cousins (which I think doubtful, though some relationship is possible, as discussed below).

I have some census records of Joseph H Jr. and Joseph H Colyer (Sr.) (b. 1849). 1850 and 1860 census records have Joseph-1849 living with Abraham-1812 and Ruth-1805.
In an old email to MJ, I assert that Robert Clarke has Joseph-1849’s grandfather as Charles Colyer (b. 1769). I now can’t confirm that, but it would be interesting to know if he has Abraham-1812 as Joseph-1849’s father. I say in the email thread, it is possible that Charles-1769 and Smith are brothers; I now wonder if Abraham-1812 and Smith are brothers (based on ages). Did Charles have other children?

Anyone hace info?
